Richard Schechner Day

Information

On December 14, Richard Schechner will walk us through his 12 plays, give notes and commentaries—and invite artists to join the conversation. Schechner is one of the pivotal figures in modern theatre and performance studies. His impact is being marked by the Schechner Plays Festival, a multi-venue retrospective planned in multiple theatres in New York City for the Fall 2027 and Spring 2028. Initiated and produced by former student Yassi Jahanmir in collaboration with The Segal Theatre Center, the festival brings together productions, staged readings, panels, and workshops that showcase his own scripts and the wide network of artists he taught and collaborated with. Schechner Plays was published in the 2025 University of Chicago anthology Schechner Plays.
